Students of tertiary institutions in Ogun State are quite lucky as Ibikunle Amosun, approves an across-the-board reduction in tuition fees payable by students in all state-owned tertiary institutions, as a way ensuring affordable and qualitative education for youths.
At the conference center of the governors office in Abeokuta, the State Commissioner For Education, Mr Segun Odubela, said the new school fees regime, would take effect from the 2014/2015 academic session.
“The new fees would have some students pay 61 per cent less than they are currently paying, while some others will be paying as low as 29,700 Naira,” he said.
Mr Odubela that the reduction was arrived at after extensive deliberation between government, leadership of the various Students’ Unions and heads of the institutions.
The new school fees regime has also abolished the indigene and non-indigene dichotomy as all students offering the same course at the same level will pay the same fees.
