Abia State NURTW chairman abducted by unknown gunmen
Abia State chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Chief Sunny Nwakoda was yesterday whisked away by gunmen while returning to his Umuana Ndume Ibeku residence, according to reports from Daily Trust.
A family sources while speaking with the newspaper said the NURTW boss had just closed from his office around 6:30 pm and was driving home but stopped at Ohokobe Ndume Ibeku to drop a friend.
After dropping him at King Obioma street, some gunmen appeared from a nearby uncompleted building and pushed him into their vehicle, firing into the air.
It was also learnt that his family members contacted the police who towed his vehicle to their station.
The family said the kidnappers had not contacted them but police said efforts were on to locate the kidnappers.
Confirming the incident, Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, said his men were making efforts to track down the kidnappers, assuring that the NURTW boss would be rescued.
The kidnap came barely two days after the commissioner for agriculture, Dr Kenneth Nwosu, was shot and later confirmed dead at the Abia Diagnostic Centre.
