Explosion in Ile-Ife. APC vs PDP brawl over it. FG denies that there was any such thing.r

In the early hours of Tuesday, two explosive device planted in strategic locations of Ile-Ife exploded.

Residents were in shock thinking Boko Haram had found their way to Ile-Ife. 

No life was lost, and since it was a deserted area properties were not lost too.

The first device exploded but the second one was discovered before it exploded.

                               APC and PDP points accusing fingers at each other.

The All Progressives Congress in Osun State and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, have traded accusations over the bomb which exploded in Ile-Ife on Tuesday.

The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of Osun APC, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said in a statement made available to our correspondent, in Osogbo, on Wednesday, that the PDP had started introducing political terrorism into the state ahead of the August 9 governorship poll.

Oyatomi also alleged that some PDP hired thugs attacked APC supporters who were on their way to Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s campaign which was held at Ibokun, in Obokun Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

The APC claimed that increase in violence in the state appeared to connected with the desperation of the Presidency to have a foothold in the South-West which is predominantly controlled by the APC.

The statement read in part, “ President Goodluck Jonathan has more than what he can handle in Boko Haram terrorism. To now add political terrorism in the South-West to his numerous economic and security problems would be unpleasant for his administration and democracy in the country.

“With the explosion going off in Ile-Ife, the hometown of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, political terrorism has now crept into the South-West and its probable link to the PDP with a history of unleashing violence on political opponents and citizens of Osun since 2007, we can only expect the worst.

“We are calling on all people of goodwill in Nigeria, Africa and the world to prevail on President Goodluck Jonathan to rein in the political terrorists in the State of Osun before the situation escalates into full scale violent confrontation, the extent of which can be catastrophic beyond our widest imagination.”

Reacting, the Director, Media and Strategy of the Organization, Prince Diran Odeyemi, however, called on the Inspector General of Police. IGP. Mr. Mohammed Abubakar to investigate the Bomb Blast that rocked Ife.

Omisore said that the governor and his party were sponsoring attacks on perceived enemies of the APC to intimidate them from voting him out of office.

He also blamed a police officer for allegedly trying to cover the blast, wondering why the police had yet to arrest anyone in connection with the incident.

Omisore said, “We want to call the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to the growing incidence of insecurity in Osun state.

Since the assumption of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Osun state the frequency of bomb blast has been on the increase and this is contrary to the peace the state has enjoyed over the years.

                                    The Federal Government denial of explosion

The National Coordinator of National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri said it was just a mere carbide explosion.

According to him, there was a report of non lethal explosive object which was investigated by ssecurity agencies at Agbedegbede Street, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The outcome shows that the explosion was neither bomb nor dynamite, but carbide as neither the ground where the explosion occured nor the building within the area affected also no human life was lost.

He also condemned the Tuesday's blast in Maiduguri.

He urged the public to continue giving their support to the security agencies in bringing to an end, activities of insurgent in the Country.
