The forthcoming governorship election in Osun is taking a violent turn, as supporters of the two main parties in the election – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) – clashed in Ile-Ife. Several people were injured as a result of the fight and properties were destroyed.
The Scoop does not have all the details of the clash at this moment, however the fracas occurred at the Gbodo and Ita Akogun areas of Ile-Ife.
The two parties have reacted to the violent clash in separate statements.
The PDP spoke through the director of media and strategy of the Omisore Campaign Organisation, Prince Diran Odeyemi, who said that the attack was led by prominent members of APC in Ile Ife and members of a group called ‘state boys.’
The APC on the other hand said in a statement by the Director of Publicity Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, that it was the PDP members who started the violence.
The Public Relations Officer of Osun State Police Command, Folasade Odoro, DSP, confirmed the development, saying the situation was under control and that the police would always ensure safety of lives and properties of people living in the state.
